H & I have first meeting with therapist tomorrow afternoon. Neither of us has ever done this before. What typically goes on during the first appointment?

Thanks,

Hi Gr,
I can let you know a few things about having been in a mix of couple and single counselling for the last year and half. The first meeting is a try and figure out why you are here kind of meeting. It will depend on the counselor as to how the questioning and answering goes. We started with a counselor at random that was covered under my plan and she suggested that I go to solo counselling for a bit and after a number of sessions on my own we brought my spouse in and have been doing both individual and couple counselling.

It can be kind of intimidating, so try to relax and proceed slowly and don't be afraid to ask the counselor questions about approaches to things.

I hope it goes well.

Thanks, Scott. It is a bit scary. This C is someone who is covered by my company's employee assistance program. I was told that it will be his job to determine what kind of therapy will work best for H and I (individual or couple).

And I completely forgot that I have been to a C before. It was last year when I was going through D. The C was under my Ex's company plan. I went once and she was very, very good. Although technically the Ex's C she did see me for a full hour and at the end told me that she had absolutely no doubt that I would come through the D just fine. "You're a very strong woman," she told me.

After the D was final, several of my co-workers advised me to take advantage of my company plan to talk to someone. I figured I didn't need it. Maybe I should have listened to them, I don't know.

Oh, OK. Sorry. I thought I should start a different one as the subject changed.

How did it go at counseling? I'm hoping it was a positive experience and a good first step...
