I was thinking the other day that a thread with recommended songs to listen to would be good to have around someplace. There's a lot of music out there that can be very beneficial. I'm not talking about the woe is me songs, but the ones that lift you up and make you stronger.
My favorite song at the moment is "Radioactive" by Imagine Dragon. I listen to it every day when I'm working out and haven't gotten sick of it yet.
Some of these are slightly on the bitter side, Alanis Morissette, for example. But some are just uplifting. And all have made me feel better at one point or another over the past year:

Yes, I have a thing for 80s music. Sorry for any typos.
After BD I couldn't stand a lot of sentimental music. I upped my exercise playlist with some Metallica, Five Finger Death Punch, old school rap from my high school/college days (like Ice Cube). Anything to keep me pumped up.

Sometimes if you want to see a change for the better, you have to take things into your own hands - Clint Eastwood
A few weeks after BD, when I could listen to music again, I created a breakup playlist. It was full of sentimental music and I couldn't listen to anything upbeat, but I did add a few over time. I stopped listening to the playlist after about 3 months. My listening habits now have reverted to my pre-BD days.
I wish everybody knew What's so great about you Oh, but your love is such a swamp You don't think before you jump I said I wouldn't cry again I guess I did
Other notable songs from the playlist.
Joey, Concrete Blonde Mr. Brightside, The Killers Just another girl, The Killers Hard enough, Brandon Flowers Heartbreak warfare, John Mayer Who's gonna ride your wild horses, U2
Ironically, a song that we listened to a lot the previous summer was "The writing's on the wall" by OK GO (they have the best videos). It's about a guy noticing that his couple is just about done. I would shake my butt and sing along for months, clueless. I even posted the video on Facebook and I post like six times a year.
It's interesting to discover each others' personality through these musical choices.
