Does anyone know of a good self development book I can read? I was told of two ones, but both of them are for men! Today I was supposed to be finding out about this business enterprise scheme, but I missed the bus I've got another appt for next Friday The last premises fell through, but I've just been told about somewhere else and it's cheaper to rent as well Bonus! Tomorrow I'm taking my son and his friend to the cinema, we're going by train to one of the big cities near us and we've off to see "Justin and the Knights of Valour". I bought his presents today for his birthday - GTA5 and guide book, A BBT t-shirt with Sheldon on the front and the words "was that sarcasm?" and a Skylander. The T-shirt is perfect for my son as he take everything literately, just like Sheldon You may not see me on here much over the weekend, I'll be too busy GALing I'm feeling a bit sad about my son's birthday as I bought him a "son" card today and realised that he'll be getting 2 son cards I'm not going to let this affect me too much though, I hope I'll stay strong for my son on Monday We're staying in a hotel with my mum on Sunday, so I'll take his presents with me and give them to him at the hotel on Monday morning I read a good bit in this book about decluttering paper clutter. It says that when you have a pile of papers on your desk, just file everything away apart from the ones that need dealing with. It makes the task less overwhelming

There's some good info on organizing in the classic "Getting Things Done" by David Allen. But, it is a real slog - not an easy read. It's a bit out of date for email and stuff, but I was able to glean some good habits from it.
I learned some things that I applied to me electronic "paperwork" - my email box and notes/tasks etc. at work. These I've stuck with for a couple years now. Just like you're saying with papers, I keep a zero inbox now. I don't use the inbox as a to-do list, because things just get lost. Basically as it comes in it's filed for action with a reminder set, done right away, filed for later reference, or my favorite - deleted! Like that pile of papers, an inbox with hundreds of items just drains the will to do anything whenever you see it.
I even bought a special set of files that fit in a desktop sized file hanger that works as a "tickler" file list - it has slots for each month that can be rotated forward so things can be filed for action and then attended to as the month comes up. Anyway, I gave up on that. 99% of my paperwork for personal life is online now, too.
Anyway, a good book to at least read thru, even if it doesn't all stick.
Thanks everyone I should be on after X factor on Saturday night and then again on Monday night (that's afternoon to you lot!) Thanks for the recommended book MH I'll add it to my ever growing list I'll be on later, hopefully with a decluttered desk and a glass of wine in my hand
