"Yes, W, I understand you are working your ass off and having a meltdown. So sad but I am tubing down the river, in the sun, sucking down an adult beverage... Yeah."

Yup. Sounds validating to me... LOL! I am just busting on you to illustrate the point. The intent was good but the execution was not so much. Eeeps!

MrCAS, I hope you're right. This is something I can learn from and recover from. The conversation happened over a few days.. not all at once.

My own interpretation was more like...

W: you missed your opportunity to be there for me last night.

Me: I would love to be there for you, but it is not possible right now.

W: no worries, I got other people I can drink and party with, I don't need you

Me: I'll be home soon, I can be there for you then.

W: too late

2nd...I am so guilty of projecting what things mean to my boyfriend (not married but just recently separated joint home) from our texts. He is not me, so it would be different interpretations whether it be positive or negative. Trying to stop doing it. Even when he texts me saying I love and miss you, I interpret it as "I love and miss you but not enough to want you.". Someone else might be ecstatic to hear they are still loved and missed. Right?

Yesterday part of our tax refund arrived, so I emailed w that it was in our old joint account. She withdrew her half and thanked me (for communicating that it was there). No other contact. She never responded to my suggestion that i sent on Monday (via text) suggesting that we get together when she is in town. So I will continue my own GAL activities and wait until she reaches out again.

Trying to detach... There are times that I wish I had an outdoor job working with my hands. Sitting in front of a computer basically writing math questions is not the best medicine for getting my mind off w.

Then get outside and work with your hands after work!

I actually am getting out and working with my hands when I should be working on paid work. I do contract work from home. So when I start working on paid work, and I get distracted thinking about w, I go out and work in the yard and come back to get work done. But i need to be more productive. I might try working from a coffee shop. This is my second job. I a teacher on break between terms until the end of the month. The teaching job is a much better distraction from w and I look forward to fall term starting.

No communication from w this week except her getting her refund money. Next time she makes contact I will post here and hopefully everyone will be at their keyboards ready to give advice.

I started to write a post about how hopeful I was when I started this thread; I felt like I was on the verge of a breakthrough. But not much has changed... I am interested in other's stories relating to the kinds of things that happen when a breakthrough does happen...

But instead of getting an answer to that question, I expect to get responses about how I need to let go of expectations LOL... I need to detach

Breakthrough for who? You or your W? You don't understand that there is no magic bullet. It will take awhile for things to sort out.
