Hey everyone,

Starting a new thread for good GAL ideas. I know there are a lot of new folks (and maybe some of us who've been around a while) who sometimes are at a loss for things to do.

Remember, it's not just doing to be doing. Eventually, you need to be doing things that make you happy. You know. like you used to do naturally, without any though at all, before you met your S and stopped being you.

So get out there and have some fun. Then maybe come back here and share your ideas.

To kick it off, here are two excellent ideas that don't cost anything. They were posted by Keeter yesterday.

Cheers.

I love to read. So one of my GALs is going to the bookstore on a lazy day and reading about topics that interest me. I also like to look at what titles of books other people are reading and then make up little stories about what the person is like like based on that.

And someone suggested in another thread to try the YES MAN approach (a la Jim Carrey movie). Say yes to any invitation you get, even if it's something you wouldn't normally do. It could be fun smile

Great idea for a thread, Goodman!

Join a softball team (beer league, of course!)

Volunteer to coach underprivileged kids

Join a band (even better if you can actually sing, or play an instrument!)

Too often, I think, people here (esp. us guys) equate "GAL activities" with "drinking beers with my buddies." Sure, that can be part of it, but remember you're trying to get back in touch with that Authentic You that attracted her/him to begin with.

No thanks, I got my own kids. grin

My GAL activities are at odds right now.
Training to run a marathon and I have a couple of stogies that need smoking. Running Club = Drinkers with a Running Problem

Trying to put a band together.

Paint the DR.

Guilty as charged on that one!

Running is a great GAL activity, because you can do it alone, or with a few friends. The endorphins are great for the mental state, the physical conditioning does wonders for confidence, and achieving distance or time goals gives you pride in yourself. Most areas have many races of varying distances, and they are fun social events. It's an equal opportunity sport, so dating prospects are all around. Doesn't cost much money either.

Anybody ever heard of the Hash House Harriers?

It's a way to get your running AND drinking done in the same event. Probably have a chapter in your town. Google it. it looks like fun. I think I'll try it out, when the heat breaks.

From Wikipedia:

The Constitution of the Hash House Harriers is recorded on a club registration card dated 1950:

To promote physical fitness among our members
To get rid of weekend hangovers
To acquire a good thirst and to satisfy it in beer
To persuade the older members that they are not as old as they feel

LOL! My friends are I are effectively a Hash House Harrier group, and we didn't even know it!
