Hooray! I just asked XW about the Thanksgiving 4 day weekend and she gave me permission again for the 4th year in a row to take the kids on a trip.
This time, I have my sights set on Victoria BC. A very British like city across the strait where my Coast Guard ship used to be. I hope to have the kids and myself get dressed up to go have tea, scones with jam, pastries and tea sandwiches like the English. I am trying still to decide which ferry to take and whether to take my van across. We might even stop by and say hi to Sandycay on the way up.
One thing I brought last year that helps getting through the border quickly as a single parent traveling with kids is a signed letter from the XW saying she approves and her contact information and my hotel and plans.
I'm looking forward to TG as well. I'm taking the girls to dinner the night before. STBXW has them for TG so I'm going to see my cousin in Wisconsin. I haven't spent time with her in years and they are D11's godparents.
I'll get them for the weekend. It'll be different, but different is good. Truth be told, I really didn't like spending every Thanksgiving with STBXW's family.
The best one we ever had was when STBXW was fed up with her mom so we ducked them and went to Wisconsin.

Ducks probably are #1 on BCS and other polls. How do the other undefeated teams rank. I think Auburn is probably #2 even though I think Alabama beats them before the SEC championship. Auburn's Nick Fairley is going to be a beast like Deacon Jones in the NFL. Offenses put 2 guys on him and he still blasts through them.
Oregon Auburn Boise State Missouri Michigan State Utah TCU
I would love to see Ducks vs Crimson Tide for the national championship. And for LaMichael James to be the Heisman winner. It would be Heisman James against Heisman Ingram.
I didn't even think about crossing the border as a single PARENT! Wow, another obnoxious hassle. Thanks for the heads up- "Newmama has MY permission to take OUR son to another country for X days." Seriously though, it is annoying but sounds like it helped you to avoid any issues! Will you daughter wear a hat and/or a scarf? Totally fun!

Kerry, maybe I can arrange for you to have tea and crumpets with the Queen, let me know...but don't blame me if she doesn't show up, she's highly unreliable (and irregular) if she forgets to have her bran in the morning.
