Interesting question, Cutter. I myself have been thinking for a couple of months now that it IS busier these days, altho I have nothing empirical to back that up. It seems overwhelming at times -- so much pain -- and hard to get to everyone.
It's sad. I think the holidays factor in, and I also think the economy does. When people are hurting, and have voids in their lives, they often try to fill them with something inappropriate.
I forget where I was reading it, I think in a local paper, but there was an article I read recently that related the "economic recovery" (if you believe the economy has turned the corner - not so sure just yet) to an uptick in D filings. The conclusion was thatpeople have been waiting on more economic stability before filing.
I haven't read that specifically, but I have been reading the converse of that for the past year or so: that people AREN'T getting divorced because they can't afford to. They're continuing to live in the same house, platonically, until such time as they can afford to fund a divorce settlement.
