And the lady sitting in front of us suggested after the service that I join their church choir! She must be a talent scout or something I'm glad I could give you smile Donna
Thanks Tom, I appreciate that! This week I made the decision to cut ties with my church. I've tried hard to adapt to a worship style which was not what I was raised on and to become part of a congregation which is almost completely made up of people from a different ethnic background. It was quite a challenge to feel as though I fit in. I often felt like a welcome outsider who would never really be an insider. That's no one's fault, just life I guess. Despite this there are many wonderful things about this church but I finally decided to make a hard decision and move on. I informed both the Pastors this week and yesterday I recieved a lovely parting email from one of them which read"...if ever you need anything call us and we'll be there for you. You're our friend for life!" It made me cry. Last night I made a contact with a friend I'd met at a different church which I had gone to previously and enjoyed. I'm going there this Sunday. I told her I was going to take my time and find a church that fits. We'll see. Btw GB, thanks to you for dropping by as well! Ohio is now well represented on my thread!
It was a big decision Tom. There were many things I loved about this church and that kept me there but there comes a point where you recognize you are not going to adapt or ever feel particularly comfortable. I was raised in a tight ass white church where we wouldn't even consider praying out loud even if we were alone! The only person who ever prayed was the Pastor. I'm just not a "praise the Lord, Amen brother" kind of guy. I want to find a place where I feel I fit. I like the evangelical style of less formality and lots of music. I was raised in a church that was very liturgical and I went back to that denomination once when I was looking for a church and thought I'd lose my mind! I hated it. The church I'm considering is one I've been to for a couple of months the last time I had doubts about the fit at my church. It's got a good number of tight assed white people and other cultures mixed in. I remember telling the Pastor there in fun that when I heard him say "Amen" and no one in the congregation responded I felt right at home! Maybe one Sunday I'll just break out screaming "Jesus, Jesus, Jesus" and see where it goes . Hey, and this church serves free coffee...what's not to love! Price of petrol? We too call it gas, AT. I believe it's 87.5 cents per litre.
How much is a litre (or liter, as we would write it). I'm paying 2.15 per gallon.
btw, I don't think I could do a "Jesus, Jesus, Jesus" church, either (although I love to visit - it can be very moving, but too meladramatic for me). I am very happy at the Methodist church I am going to. It is small, very friendly, lots of singing...good luck on finding a good fit.
Free coffee ??!! I would switch in a heartbeat, eh ?
Lets see a US gallon is what.. 3.78 litres so that would make it.. um.. somewhere around $3.36/US Gal. .. oh and then there is the exchange rate. I dont know if that helps Donna .
