GET A LIFE!

Okay, let's hear them! What is the number one thing you have done to GAL and what have you gotten out of it?

Optional: What other GAL activities are you doing, and can you think of any others you would like to do?

Me:

Joined a local martial arts club and informed W I am going to be training there once a week. I put this off for 4 years because I felt guilty about leaving her at home with D4.

What did I get out of it? Well the main thing is that it taught me my fears were completely unfounded and that it was just me projecting my insecurity onto my W. She never said a negative thing about it. Not only that, she made some of her own plans with D4 since I wasn't going to be around, and has since said she enjoys that time since she feels no pressure to rush home. Over time it will also offer me the benefits of exercise, meeting new people, and improving my ability to defend myself.

OK, I'll bite.

This might sound crazy to some, but I LOVE going to the gym at 5am. It imposes little upon your family, and it's so special because the world is so quiet and peaceful. It's still dark out, there's no traffic. No one can get to you--Even your boss is still sleeping! And, you take care of the most important person (yourself) FIRST, before the day gets hectic and carries you away. Love it.

By getting your health maintenance out of the way early, you're free in the evenings to do other, more social GAL activities.

I stopped working overtime and starting going on playdates with my girlfriends and their kids. My kids are making new friends, and now I am opening up even more doors to GAL. When H backed out of a dinner date, I told him 'no big deal' and went out with a girlfriend instead. H didn't think I was waiting a home pining for him.

I also started running again. I've lost 30 pounds, my kids see how important exercise is, and I am training for a 1/2 marathon. My H tells me constantly how proud he is and how good I look.

Last night I went to a movie by myself.
I am finally taking care of my iron deficiency and getting an iron infusion at the hospital next week.

I used to roll out of bed at 8 every morning run a brush through my hair get dressed and go to work, eating on the way in the car.

Now I get up at 6am and walk on the treadmill, take a shower every morning and spend the time to do my hair and put on makeup. I have lost 8 lbs since I started and feel really good about that. I am also spending time with the kids in the morning when before they just came in to say goodbye to me as I was getting up.

I plans with the Mom of my daughters friend and we are going to sushi on Friday.

I called a racket club near my work and I am seriously thinking about going to take a tennis lesson. Might be the wrong time of year for that but I remember really liking it in High School.

Mellenmack,

It made me giggle to see "hooker boots" followed by your work at the high school. I hope those two worlds don't collide (eg, wearing hooker boots to a football game for all the kids to see)!

Hopeful,

That is so great! You are doing so much for yourself and you should feel proud of yourself.

Keep on keepin' on!

I also have plans to get a new haircut and some new clothes that are more flattering but those will wait for my Tax Return. =)

You know what, LuckyGirl, I DO WEAR THOSE HOOKER BOOTS TO SCHOOL. They aren't *really* hooker boots. They are black. They have prolly 3 inch heels and they zip to just under the knee by about 2 inches or so. But, yeah, I wear them with a short dress (NOT miniskirt) and they are cute. I'm sure I look like trash to the older crowd, but to people my own age to those about 8 years younger, the look is cool. Even the principal wore herself some hooker boots the other day. She looked nice though. Don't think about the hooker boots from Pretty Woman. They are definitely not like that!!
