Thank you for visiting!!! Muffins are on the way!!
OK: Question. Next Friday (the 30th) is B's birthday (also his 30th), a week from today. Should I do anything? If I don't hear from him by then, should I do anything? If I *do* hear from him, should I do anything?
I have a book that I bought for him as a gift to have ready on hand a long time ago, but looking at it now, I realize it is thoughtful, considerate, surprising (something *I* would never read, but he would probably like), but BO-RING. It is a book by a presbyterian theologian. *yawn*.
If I am going to give him something, and maybe I shouldn't ESPECIALLY if I don't hear from him, I feel like I should give him something more lighthearted (I dunno... "Reno 911" on DVD???) Surprise surprise, I have a loooonnggggg list of ideas I can post here and we can all vote... or I can come up with brand new ideas.
As for the daily update-- went shoe shopping with my Mom and helped her pick out shoes for a wedding she's going for tomorrow. mother-daughter bonding. Also, AMAZINGLY, after I was cleaning out my childhood bedroom last night, we started talking about changing the room, something I have been wanting to do for years, but have been hesitant to because I was afraid she wouldn't want to change it. She offered to strip the wallpaper (hearts and flowers I picked out when I was 7), repaint it a new color, find me new furniture, incl. buying a double mattress instead of the lil twin that's there now that I have trouble sleeping on, and she totally supported me cleaning out ALLL the relics of my childhood. ????!!!! I have wanted this for so long, and now it is happening, and I didn't even have to ask???!!!
She also asked me about facercise, and expressed interest in making kombucha (???!!!). And my brother told me he is trying to be less sarcastic so it is easier for people to communicate with him. ALLELUIA.
It feels good to unblock the energy in my old room by cleaning it and changing it and making it more comfortable.
On the other hand I had a long phone conversation with a friend of mine who is getting married this summer. Mmm, I'm jealous...it's true.
Let me know what you think guys!!! You are amazing!!
Thinking of you. So cool about bonding with your Mom.
I wouldnt send anything for BF's birthday - unless he has made contact.... and even then it should probably be very low key (like a text message)... (is BF's love language gift giving? - I forget).
I love that your Mum was interested in facercising! I remember you posted about how it's pretty difficult to get the mind-muscle connection thing going. I totally found that too! I took me ages to get it, and I like to think I'm pretty body aware. But when it does click, it really clicks! Amazing!
I agree with Essie and K, a text message, or a birthday card will be enough. Or you could do both- send a funny card and follow it on the day with a lighthearted, short text.
(((T))) Queen cake recipes coming soon. Or a Soul Cake recipe.
BTW, a book on presbytarian theology? You are so intellectual!! Wow!!
You guys are amazing... it's so awesome that I can go to bed and wake up and receive all this guidance through my computer screen!!
Waiting, waiting, waiting....
Essie, I think his main LL is touch and time together.
Kalni, text message. nothing more, unless he's contacted me. got it.
Lisa, Oh! I am so glad to hear it took you a while to get it too, that is very encouraging, b/c when I first started it was so frustrating. But I think I am "starting to get it". I am excited for the recipes!
Just to clarify, not that I am going to SEND it to him or anything, but the whole thing with the book is that B has been on this long journey of understanding his religious identity ... he was raised very conservative Baptist, and when he was in Boston his church was basically like a very small, liberal, experimental support group for recovering baptists!! While we were still in Boston we watched this DVD interview with this radical presbyterian theologian and both got really excited... so that's where the book idea came from, a way of saying, "I know things about you that no one else does" AND "I am giving you something that is for you, not for me". He is kind of into reading theology because I think it helps him understand his religious identity better. Ay yi yi!!!
