Have any women here tried natural testosterone to boost libido? If so, I'm curious as to the dose.

I tried 2.5mg capsules which ended up resulting in weight gain for me. I know it comes in other forms as well, but I'm considering trying a lower dose.

I definitely noticed a difference while taking it which wasn't surprising since my testosterone level is low. I've tried building it naturally with diet and exercise, but I don't have any consistent results like I did with the drug. So I'm considering asking for a lower dose to try.

Did you really experience a change in you sex drive, or how often you thought about sex?

That is interesting. I was curious how this might really effect women. Does this kind of give you a clue as to how men feel every second of the day?

Find a doctor who uses compounding pharmacies for testosterone cream. (If you can't find one, ask your local compoudning pharmacy for a recommendation). A typical dose for a woman would be in the range of 0.5 - 4 mg/d topically. Careful of too much - there's a fine line between enough for libido and too much with excess facial hair etc.

Ellie - I've started the capsules again. I don't like them b/c they are hard on the liver, but supposedly the creams/gels have a higher percentage that convert to estrogen, and I need to avoid that due to a history of breast cancer in my family. I've heard the creams may be more effective. You are dammed if you do and dammed if you don't.

Actually, I just reviewed all the WHI study data for a lecture. Do you realize that the women in the estrogen-only arm of that study (women on Premarin only, no Provera) did NOT have an increased risk of breast cancer? Plus the big European cohort study, EPIC (which includes a lot of women on estradiol or estriol, not just Premarin) shows similar results. Talk with your doctor about it.

Ellie - I just had more tests done. My testosterone is lower than the optimal range and my estradiol as at the low end of normal. The pills did not work out this time, so I'm thinking aobut trying the cream. I'm curious as to whether you learned anymore?

I read an interview once with a transsexual who'd gone from female to male. He'd always been attracted to women as a female, so that didn't change, but he said the physical (surgical) changes were actually less startling than the hormone treatments. Apparently it's a massive dump of testosterone a woman has to take to "make the switch." He said he'd been unprepared for the effects. Where he might have noticed a pretty girl on the subway before and wondered what she was reading, he said, he was now involuntarily watching a pornographic movie in his head starring some random stranger whose only connection to him was that she was wearing a short skirt on the bus. He said it was actually a little frightening and would often take his breath away because he had so little control over his own mind.

I'm sure it was harder for him; men born men get these feelings in puberty and take years to learn to deal with it so they can still do something besides think about sex. He went from zero to caveman in a few months.
