Does any of you wonderful people have any links to "REAL" work at home jobs?

My world is crashing around me and I need help. H is about to lose his job and am afraid he's going to file soon or just up and dump us. I work full time but don't make very much. I love my job and don't want to give it up so I want to find something else to do to help supplement my income.

Anybody know of anything. I have seen a few on here that work from home. What do you do and how do you get started?

Please help
TOH

I work from home often.. but I don't think it's really what you're looking for. I work for a large company with many different sites around the world, so I'm able to "telecommute" fairly often. If you can find a place that will let you telecommute plus have really flexibile hours that might work?

Can you do something different and more lucrative during the day while doing your existing job at night??

I think some insurance agents work from home offices, and Medical Transcription is another alternative - but both require some training.

Sorry.. not a lot of help.. all I can think of though.

Depends what you do. In Canada, I am a member of the Canadian Virtual Assistant Network, through which people needing a virtual assistant in a variety of fields can find one. Try googling virtual assistant or that kind of thing to see what you can find in your area.

Before starting my current job, I was mostly taking meeting minutes as an 'independent contractor' - I invoiced people, they paid me directly. I also found these types of assignments through personnel agencies - contact the ones in your area and see if they can help you find something at home/flexible.

The labour market here is very much employee driven right now, which enabled me to say to my boss that having to go to work just wasn't working for me. Rather than replace me, she made it possible for me to work from home. Even five years ago, I don't know if I would have had that much pull, so local conditions really make a difference.

You might have to do something less than idea for a while, keeping in mind your goal of working from home. Once you've made some contacts, it may be easier to get the arrangements that work for you.

Maybe you can look into those home parties? Tastefully Simple is a good one to work for/with. They cost a bit to start up in order to have a sales kits for your parties, but at least you get to keep the items for your use and all if it doesn't work out. I'm thinking about joining Tastefully Simple now myself, but going back and forth on that.

thanks all.

I've heard of people telecommuting and transcribing from home but I just don't know how to go about getting into something like this. I really like my job and don't want to lose it. Just thinking if I can find something to do at night from home I can maybe suppliment enough so that I don't have to change jobs.

Today I started to look into selling on Ebay. We will see.

Ebay can work if you have someting that you are very familiar with so you know what your market is, when you find a good deal on something to re-sell, etc. Keep in mind that you may have to pay taxes if you're buying stuff specifically to re-sell it (as opposed to "clearing out the closet" kind of selling).

I've made good money on there selling stuff that I might've otherwise sold at a garage sale.. probably 200 or so auctions as a seller, mostly cleaning out closets and such. The few times I've bought stuff to re-sell I ended up losing money unfortunately. Bought a bunch of barbies at $3 apiece when a local toy store went out of business, figured they were at least worth $10 or so. I checked on eBay and found that others had the same ones up for sale and they weren't even selling for $.99. Oh well... so, those went to a "Toys for Tots" thing when Christmas rolled around (least they went to a good cause!). Same thing, got a great deal on some MP3 players, but apparently others did too... eBay got flooded with them right after I bought them. I ended up selling those to friends at cost. I might've made an extra $1 on eBay but it wasn't worth the hassle.

Not to discourage you from it - not at all! Just do your homework on it so you don't end up LOSING money. Researching current and completed listings for whatever you might want to sell can be very revealing. My H had some old video games he was going to get rid of... I decided to look them up first. Some that we thought would be worth quite a bit weren't even getting $.99 used - but one that we thought would be worthless turns out to be selling regularly for almost $200!

I look up EVERYTHING on there now before donating or tossing it. Good way to bring in some $$ once in awhile even if it's not a regular thing.

I used to pick up work here. They seemed to be decent, reliable folks.

Wow thanks OT! I just checked out that site, very cool! When things slow down at my regular job I may just check that out, too.
