A little town near us has a Halloween celebration in the town square. The fire fighter's set up shop in the park and all the local business pitch in and it just basically is a very safe and fun time for the kids.
I tell the girls to go up to their rooms and get their costumes on...I'm expecting Tinkerbell and a scarecrow to come back down. 1st one down is our little 2 year old scarecrow (cute as a button, hard to believe she'll be 3 in a week) And then...down comes our 5 year old - all decked out in her little camo fatigues, boots, the whole bit...she even has her own little bow & arrow ! I'm like.."Baby, I thought you were dressing up as Tinkerbell? You want to go as a hunter instead ?" She gets this sweet, little, innocent look on her face and says "Not just any hunter, I wanna go as daddy." I almost cried..I thought "awe how sweet, she's looking up to her dad and wants to be like him" And then she gets a sly grin on her face and starts mocking IC by limping towards the door - Yup, she is definitely IC's kid and God help us all becasue she's also got his odd sense of humor
That's so cool I love watching our 3 boys and their different personalities and what they get from me and what they get from H. It's crazy that we can have 3 boys and they can all 3 be so different yet the same. Our "middle" is 3 1/2 and he is definitely his own man and looks totally different from the other 2. He has blond hair & beautiful blue eyes (from my dad) and the other 2 have dark hair. He is also built differently than the other 2. Oldest & youngest are going to be tall & skinny like H and middle boy is just a "chunk." He's not fat, he's just SOLID.

Miss IC, I dressed my daughter up as Tinkerbell for her first Halloween, and we went to a party at friend's house. She was a week shy of her first birthday...could stand but not walk as yet ( that would come a month later). Oh my, she was soooooo cute. She has developed into an artsy kid, and as the years went by, she would get so creative/expressive with her costumes. I am just having a moment of nostalgia here, so bear with me, as one mom to another. The time goes fast.

I get the feeling that we live pretty close to each other. I get over 200 trick or treaters each year at my house. Last night I sat out on my porch and read "The Omnivore's Dilemma" while I handed out little pieces of processed corn syrup to the kiddies. It's an excellent book and would definitely be of interest to anyone who hunts for food. I definitely have a "live off the land" fantasy that has been pretty much limited to forcing my family to repeatedly eat various dishes made from stuff grown in my garden while in season. I think as far as I could go with raising/killing my own live protein source would be to stock a pond with fish.

My middle kid looks like me. He doesn't like to be reminded of that for some reason, but since he's the only person I've ever met that looks like me, he's going to hear about it. When a girl likes him, for instance, I'll smile and say that that's only to be expected because of his good looks.
My 11 year old decided she wanted to be cute instead of scary. She found a red devil dress that she could wear to a dance if she leaves off the devil horn headband, added a little sparkly makeup, and her mom's Sharona boots, and she was ready to go. Too cute! I don't think she'll have any trouble getting dates in a couple of years.
a fine and enviable madness, this delusion that all questions have answers, and nothing is beyond the reach of a strong left arm.
Your boys sound like little sweethearts ! I basically had twins only 2 years apart Nobody can ever question that they aren't IC's kids...he has the biggest blue eyes you'll ever see... that is until you see his girl's. They are so much like him, that I'm beginning to question if they are even mine

Journey, Our oldest is the creative one, she was up and running at about 9 months and has not slowed down since. The youngest is the obsessive - compulsive one...everything has to be in order and she is soooo set on routines. I just want to keep them small and just as they are. I hear you on the nostalgia. As one mom to another..damn you Journey, now I'm almost in tears.

Crazy Eddie,
LOL, I always say that when our girls do something good or sweet, that they get that from me. When they are unruly and rowdy...that ALWAYS get that from IC

Mojo, If you form a triangle from Ann Arbor to Lansing to Jackson, you've pretty much framed in our stomping grounds. We are actually pretty close to the little town of Hell.
IC has that "live off the land" fantasy and for the most part does pretty well at it...as long as it's WILD animals. He had the big idea about 4 years ago that he was going to get a baby buffalo and raise it until it was big enough to...well you know. Mr. Tough Guy IC couldn't do it, so now he has a 1000 lb pet buffalo that follows him around the field like a little lost puppy
