Just taking an informal poll here...for those of you who have taken an antidepressant, do you feel it caused you to gain weight, lose weight, or do you feel it had no effect on your weight?
I was told by a friend of mine who is a RN who cares for terminal or end of life patients that very often a patient is given ADs not only to help ease the emotional stress but to also help increase their appetite, because in many cases, the patient has lost their desire to eat.
I have had several friends who have complained that their do become more hungry while on ADs.
I'm sure as with all situations, there are many people who have had an opposite experience too. I guess it really depends on the person.
Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you.........
During MLCBS I lost weight when taking Effexor, but I also had no appetite and I was taking Klonopin for the anxiety which is also an appetite suppressant.
Ohhh I loved that drug!!!
It took the edge off and made me feel wonderful.
There can be no testimony without a test. I am praying to go through this test and come out the other end with a new and better marriage then before.
I found that I did gain weight (from being way too think after H left). But I attribute it to an increase in appetite becuase I started eating again when i started to feel better. When my H left, I pretty much had no desire to eat.
Married 9 years Kids 5 and 6 Bomb 2006 H back and forth for a year M now back on track
Wow, it's like you read my mind. I was just thinking this today.
When my H left I lost 60lbs on the MLC diet.
I went on AD's and I was feeling better, which in turn I started eating again. I also started to eat more after I had my gallbladder taken out too becasue I wasn't restricted from certain foods anymore.
I have since gained more than half of it back. I have been trying to eat healthy again over the last few days because I feel lousy. I have gone off my AD's about a month ago. I am hoping some of the weight will come off again.
Hi - I took ADs for about three months, but at pretty low dosages. Didn't notice any difference in my weight - I haven't really started eating completely normally again in over two years. I am not sure that I ever will.
I mean that I do eat because I want to stay healthy, and I enjoy my food, but I still find it worryingly easy to not eat for a day or two . . .
Had a number of side effects while on Lexapro(3mo.), EffexorRX(18mo.), and then Cymbalta briefly(2mo.). It became hard to sort the possible effects of ADs from the likely effects of depression. I put them in the closet, cold turkey.
Have yet to regain old appetite or weight lost during the bombings. Not complaining. I expect to one day wake up unable to see my toes, with a smile on my face, a DingDong in one hand and a Corona in the other.
