Cac, close you eyes, imagine her and eagle, a live jet or stunt plane. Feel the wind, feel, hear her motor. Fly the bird!

There is a SciFi story, Equal Rites, where a seventh child of a seventh child thing turns out to be a girl and is turned into an eagle soaring over the country side. Or Atriiu[sp] from the Never Ending Story. Listen to her motor, and hear the shift points and get the timing right...but you have to do it by ear, by feel, no instruments for ya...

Hugs...

Either you don't understand what an INTJ is...or you do, and you're making fun of me!!
But those are just the type of metaphors that make me go Remember the robot from "Lost in Space"? "...does not compute!!! "

fwiw, flying airplanes is very much a "by the numbers" activity. Its a romantic notion to think of it as some kind of "by feel" or "seat of the pants" thing, but the reality is quite the opposite. (which is why aviation is the perfect avocation for an intj, but I digress...). See, airplanes lie. (not at all unlike people). they don't always tell the truth, in fact, they transmit sensations that are highly deceptive to the human senses that indicate the opposite of what is real. One of the first things they teach you when learning to fly is to ignore these sensations, at all costs, because they can only lead you astray. Instruments are the only trustworthy source of information. Pilots who forget this or don't apply it absolutely usually wind up at the bottom of the ocean, bored into the side of a mountain, or scattered in smitherines across the landscape.
If only people came with instruments, life would be a whole lot easier for folks like me...

And then you wouldn't have to grow at all, would you?

Anyway, Jung says that in the latter years of your life, you should try to develop your opposite qualities... so that if you're an introvert, you should try to become more extraverted, if you're a thinking type to develop your feeling side more.

So the INTJ should be moving in the direction of the ESFP... it's not logical to stay the same all your life with out growing. The classifications are not meant to be used as an excuse for why you can't get along in the world.

so much for "do what you are", and "..."to thine own self be true".

why not?
there's "growth"...and then there's "teaching a pig to sing".

Its neither an excuse nor an inability to "get along in the world". But a plausable explanation for why I can't process or apply information like "feel her motor".

Of course I am. Thats exactly what I've been saying. "I don't get it".

and another apparent contradiction: Holding onto hope that someone in another thread could change and become "steady and happy" is delusional. (like teaching a pig to sing?) yet I'm supposed to "grow" toward the exact opposite of my nature...

Yes, but her H is not here posting, inquiring about himself, wondering how he might make his life better, as you presumably are.

You're right though, Chuck, you are probably hopeless.

Edited to add: That was me reacting from here

Ok...Lil's last and most of the intj moving towards...I don't understand cuz I've not been exposed to the science.

Cac, have you driven a clutch/manual car? Must you always use the tach or can you shift by "feel or ear"?

My analogy may be just too romantic to let the guys identify with it. Which also explains why I can't get my H to understand "intimacy".

Why would God make us this much at odds?

Merry Christmas, Happy Channukah and Solstis Salutations. (Other Greetings of the Season as they apply too)

yeah, I can drive a stick. In fact, I much prefer it to an automatic, because the automatic doesn't know as much about what is going on as I do. It makes its decisions for me, often incorrectly, based on faulty or incomplete information. (like "feelings"...) and that annoys me....

W commented recently about how reading about personality types has shown her how she can sometimes act like an automatic transmission...drawing the wrong conclusions from few facts and misleading "feelings". like my benign comment on the weather is actually NOT a critique of her parenting skills or value as a person.

Heh. You're not saying that feelings aren't an important factor in making decisions, right?
