Hi Folks--trying to restart the locked health thread that Becca, SE, SH and a few other folks started. It was a fun forum for all of us to share goals, progress and tips on our efforts to get healthy (and happy) during what is otherwise a stressful time in our lives.

Running a marathon, want to fit into those jeans, maintaining a medical condition or just wanna feel great?? Join us!

As for me...the last few weeks I've slacked seriously. Funny, H is gone this week (he's health nut) yet I had an urge to get back on the wagon. Had a nice workout this morning, despite horrible weather, and feel great. Plan to eat healthy today and have a fun night with friends.

This is a great idea! We tend to forget about ourselves, including our health, when we are so focussed on saving our marriages. I am in the process of studying for a certificate in fitness training, and finding it really interesting. I started it as a way to detach, focus on something else that will help me get fit and healthy, and for a career where I can be financially independent of H, if the need arises. I complete the certificate next year. I am so excited about this career change, and ultimately, want to write about health and fitness issues, especially as pertaining to lifestyle changes that help us keep healthy as we age.

What I have learned, so far, is that one should follow a balanced diet, exercise regularly (without burning out), and give yourself time to de-stress. I don't believe in following a diet, except to generally follow the food pyramid prescribed by Canada Health, and to make sure I get 5-10 fruits and veggies a day. Carbs are very important if you are doing cardio exercises, and protein for weights, but eat wholegrain carbs, and low fat protein, such as skinless chicken, fish, and lean beef.

I am going to be researching the Mediterranean diet (good for the heart, I believe), Japanese way of eating, and the book French Women Don't Get Fat. I believe they are more about lifestyle, rather than dieting. If anyone is interested, I will post my opinions on what I find out.

My keywords for health (for the body, mind and spirit), are balance, moderation, resilience, and love (you have to love yourself in order to do what's right for your body, and love your family and friends so that you can set a good example and be around longer for them)

Ok, I've been BAAADDD But I have to get back on track. I think yesterday all I ate was a bowl of cereal for dinner and a brownie.

Beingme- I would love to hear what you find out about the Medittereanean diet. Sometimes, I get so bored with weight watchers....I would love to try something different.

Well....here's to a better week for all of us!

Well I did it! I taught my first aerobics class Friday! I thought it went really well. The ladies gave me lots of feedback which was great. They loved the music I had and my energy. It was so great I can't wait to do it again!

I actually gained 3 pounds but lost it again the weird thing is my legs went down 1 1/2 inches and my arms 1 inch. My abdoemen went down 2 inches. So I guess my body is just in change mode right now. As long as the waist goes down I don't really care what the scale says.

Oh I bought my first bikini in 8 years! It looked so good I was so proud of myself. Go Me Go Me Go Me

Good for you SW! Way to go! I love aerobics classes - it really gives me a feeling of having really worked out.

At the moment, I mostly work out at home - I have set up a really nice gym area in our basement with everything I need. I have lost 3 lbs in the last 2 weeks - I am very pleased. Those who are trying to lose weight, but nothing is budging even though you are lowering your calories and increasing your activity - check out your medication! I am on Lipitor, and apparently it can lower one's metabolic rate, so I checked with my doctor, and he lowered my dose, and that's when I started slowly losing again. Yay!

I have started reading the book on the Mediterranean Diet, but note that it is not a diet one goes on, but a way of eating for life. So far, I have learned that it involves fresh fruits/veggies, whole grains, small amounts of protein, and olive oil. They also seem to drink a glass of wine with their meals.

I will continue reading, and let you know what I feel I can get out of it, personally.

Crazy day yesterday. Went to the gym to train and my boss ended up not showing because she went to the Dr's office. I show up for the regualar class I take and the girl is a no call no show. So since I had my music and everything I stepped up and taught the class. This time instead of stressing about what move I was going to do next I really looked at the class. Took breath breaks when they looked like they were in need. Brought it up or down depending on how they looked. I felt really in tune with them this time. It was amazing!

Later I called my boss and left a message telling her I taught the class. She called back and said she had fired the girl because it was the 3rd time she was a no call no show since January. She offered me the class. So I said Yes! I am so excited! I have always wanted to teach aerobics since I was 18 and subed for a girl over christmass break. Now 20 years later my dream has come true.

My boss has also really been there for me since all this started. One of the first times we were discussing training was after the bomb and I just started crying in the middle of our conversation. She just pulled me in the bathroom and gave me an ear and some helpful advice. I was telling her yesterday I feel so blessed to have met her. She said, "you know I was thinking the same thing about meeting you."

Not only is this my GAL but the body I had at 20 is returning. I know I am driving my H crazy. But now it is you can look, but no touchy.

To all,

We need to weigh in every week so that we know our true progress. It is up to you to post it. That is one way to assist each other with losing.

I found this interesting article, and thought y'all may find it interesting too. It covers the Mediterranean, French, Japanese, and Chinese diets.

http://www.thesoko.com/thesoko/article727.html

Sad to say, I had a DQ hamburger today. Uh! The first one I've had in months. I actually feel sick. Tomorrow is another day, and I will get back on track with eating healthier. My doctor has taken me off Lipitor, since my cholesterol is down, and he will be checking me in 6 months to see if I can keep it down with a healthier lifestyle, which means I have to be more careful about what I put into my body, and must keep active. Good motivation!
