I've been reading in this forum about the Enneagram and was wondering if there were specific posts I could look up about the discussion here?
I stopped by the bookstore last night to try to buy UL but they did not have it in stock. Anyway, I wound up looking at the Enneagram book and found it very interesting to say the least.
How does the Enneagram fit in with DB'ing?
Thanks for any input or info
According to the Buddha, praise and blame, gain and loss, pleasure and sorrow may "come and go like the wind," but happiness comes if you can "rest like a great tree in the midst of them all."
For me, it has helped in that it gave me insight into his personality and that's really it. There was a section in the book I read entitled "How to get along with me". I read it over and over, trying to commit to memory the particular little quirks about my H (and they were right on the money) and how to go about interacting with him.
For instance, there was one priceless one that said "Don't overreact to my overreacting". That has come in handy with some recent bad news that has affected our family.
I think I had a tendency to take his quirks personally, as if they were things he was doing solely to annoy ME, lol. Also, reading about myself and how I "come off" to other people was a very humbling experience.
What book are your talking about? I've read a few posts related to Enneagrams and also found it interesting. I did some online research and found some info. I'd love to have a book though and would rather order something that someone has experience with. Cathy
Thanks for your experience with the Enneagram! Which book did you read? The hard part will be figuring out what type my H is. I think I am a 4 from what I have read so far. I'm guessing he's a 3 or a 5 but obviously, I need to read the book to know more.
Thanks, SP

Hi Lillie- Thanks for posting the book you recommend! I will check it out.
Thanks, SP

I read "The Enneagram Made Easy". I found it at a garage sale, of all places, for 75 cents!
It appealed to me because it approaches it in a very lighthearted way. Not that I am not a deepthinking person; it's just that a good joke goes a long way with me.
The most interesting thing about reading the book vs. reading a website devoted to enneagrams was that I realized that my first impressions of the types were mistaken. For instance, I had pegged Hairdog's wife (a Type 1) as someone that I wouldn't want to be around in real life because number one's think they're always right, etc. She sounded too rigid and demanding for me.
Upon reading the book, I realized that my favoritest sister (hope the rest of em never read this site, for a variety of reasons, lol), whom I speak to every day, and my best friend are both Type 1's. So, irl, I would probably like his wife very much.
anyway, good luck finding the books. Did your H take the test to find out what type he is?
Each enneagram type has an upside and a downside. None is inherently good or bad (or obnoxious and pleasant). The Enneagram Made Easy book is also very good (if kind of bare bones). The one I mentioned has tons more info.
Hi HP & Lillie - Thanks for your feedback about the books. I will be looking into them .
HP - No my H did not do the test. He is one of those anti-self help books type of person so I will have to read and try to see what he is. I'm leaning toward the 3 so far for him but we shall see...
I feel like there is not enough time in the day to read all of these great books!!! H already thinks I'm nuts for always reading these self help/spirituality types of books. Guess, it will be 1 to tango on the Enneagrams.
Thanks, SP
