There is some truth to this. I know my buttons have been pushed on this board (and others) a time or two before, reminding me that I need to GAL. But no matter what: I LOVE the internet!
I don't see the point though. I and many of you are here baring our souls, searching for answers to difficult questions. When someone comes along and acts in an insulting manner, it is natural that we get upset. IRL people are generally less insulting, becuase deep down most people like Marvel are cowards. It is precisely on anonymous BBs that people can push our buttons most effectively. If Marvel were to have done that IRL to someone like BF or NOPkins or Cobra, he would have gotten his a$$ kicked. But here, anyone can be a prima donna.
I LOVE Carlin. The guy's wit is one of the most incisive I have ever heard.

I usually don't fall for those. Oh well. The only bad thing is that I think Bill Maher is a stupid prick who has his head way up his a$$. I guess even jerks can be funny sometimes.

That's right . . . it was me.
Hairdog, a great judge of character (most of the time)
Nice call. I think I was the first to mention that they were one person, playing two different roles (in a now deleted thread). I'll stand by that, Marvel's protest aside.....

That's interesting that you have such different opinions of Carlin and Maher, given that their humor (and political outlook) is so similar. The New Rules, especially are always Carlinesque (New word!).

It is definitely natural to get upset. But in this case there's nothing to be gained by letting him know he upset you, kwim? I mean, that was his intent-- to push everyone's buttons. There was no real issue with him-- he wasn't really sex-starved, unhappily married, or anything. He was doing this for amusement. And when I said it was kind of funny, I was thinking of the content of some of his posts-- really off the wall! If it weren't so mean, it would be fun to run rampant through some online community saying whatever you feel like-- it would be the equivalent of streaking!
Picture this: Marvel comes on the board and posts... claims his wife left him because he finds sex disgusting. A few people reply nicely, then Marvel gets weird. Immediately ALL replies to his threads stop. We treat him as if he were invisible. If we treat him as invisible (unlike RL) he IS invisible. THAT would have been even funnier than what really happened!

I would correct that to read they can push our buttons with impunity, unlike IRL because as you point out, they are cowards. But internet button pushing doesn't have to be all that "effective." Just aim your pointer at that little box with the x in the upper right hand corner of your window. Poof! They're out of your life!
The reason I asked him how old he was was that I thought maybe the "17" in his name was his age!
Edited to add: The reason you don't see the point is because you are a kind, sensitive, intelligent man.
Personally folks I am not so insecure as to get offended by honest responses to what is assumed is an "honest" discussion. MB's are always on your honor - we could all be lying about small details, big details - who knows. I KNOW who I am - too bad Marvel has to play at being someone else since he isn't too fond of himself. Anyone who got angry or defensive - oh well, honest response. Does not necessarily explain anything.
Not that you should be reading this. Not that I care.
Yawn.
Thanks for coming. Nice thread title. I'd probably go with an different adjective than "Dangerous" for you. But that's me. Shrug. Fantastic work on the self-esteem though. Kudos.
Your posts have given me an tremendous amount of hope actually. Tells me there IS someone for everyone (if you are, indeed, married). If you have an W, she's an very very lucky F IMO...and so are you. Urg, not to say you're an F. Nope, all man, baby.
Hope the atheism thing goes well for you too. Ah, that would make you an "spiritual asexual" then, huh?
Anyhoo, if you are M I'm sure you will have a very long and happy blissful M. And will never require suchh an web site.
