Hi Ellie - I'm glad you have started a new thread. I meant to post before, have you considered starting a subscription based online consultation service? Business services seem to be much easier to set up e.g. payments via paypal.

Mt doctor has asked me to get a thyroid test done and I know I'd pay to have advice online from a knowledgeable person. We travel a lot, so in person visits are not always easy to set up. Plus I'm not sure my GP is that experienced in specialist areas anyway...

Hi Ellie

Well done on the weight loss! Do you feel better for it? I know I have no excuses, I am a little overweight because I enjoy my food!

Because I am still so far from being FAT but not far from the slippery slope of "middle aged spread", I really need to get a grip on myself. I just don't burn up as many calories as I used to!

I already feel better after just 36 hours on the food go slow!

Just want to say though, that there ARE those who kid themselves that they are "hardly eating anything" but haven't a clue just how many calories they are putting away every day. They think it's OK to eat tons of "low cal" stuff (the label is often misleading) or think things are "just a snack" etc.

I would LOVE to do that, but have not been able to figure out the insurance obstacles. I'm still working on it though. Why is your doctor suggesting the thyroid test? If there's true reasons to be suspicious, then request ALL of the following tests (usuallt they only do TSH):
TSH, Free T4, Free T3, and anti-TPO antibodies.

Yes - but this wasn't me. In fact, it was when I began compulsively recording everything I ate with that online service that I finally saw that it absolutely was NOT an issue of what I was eating. It pretty much blew my mind, that it was even possible to diet so perfectly and exercise so much and not lose an ounce. Clear evidence that my metabolism was not up to par on the dose of thyroid I was taking then.

Congrats on the 5 pounds, that is great that you figured it out! I am in the mid to low 160's myself, I'd like to be 160 by the end of the month.

Amazing how our body works! Congratulations on losing the 5 lbs, and finding how the increase in meds helped. I have been trying to lose weight too, and wonder if my medication for cholesterol is preventing that happening. I am on 16 mg Lipitor (which I think is too high since my cholesterol levels are normal now), and have not been able to lose much weight despite lowering my food intake quite considerably (I have kept a food diary, and am very aware of what I put in my mouth - am also studying to be a fitness trainer, so all this adds to my experience over and above the theory), and exercising 5-6 times a week - that is weights, cardio, stretches, for up to an hour.

I will probably have to go to my doctor and check with him. Sigh!

Ellie,

Feel free to contact me at cissy@coooley.com. There is no need to discuss me any further on the other thread.

SWL - I'm not interested in getting into a conflict. I simply felt that this comment:

Have you ever wondered why you get very few responses? Check your threads.

was impolite and I understand why she took it personally. The number of responses is not a measure of how "good" a DBer someone is, or even of how well they take advice.

Believe me, I've been guilty myself of giving people advice they didn't want to hear and of pushing a little too hard when I thought someone didn't "get it". I just think she's made it pretty clear she's heard you guys but doesn't agree that it's the right approach for her sitch.

Ellie, it had nothing to do with a popularity contest. If RC wanted to know what I meant, she could have asked. She, like others, have just assumed. Should I have explained when I wrote it? Perhaps. I know full well that there are plenty of people reading who know exactly what was meant.

You say you are not looking for a conflict but when you jump into a thread and start defending, a thread often takes on a playground brawl mentality. I think, if you have followed RC, you are fully aware that she can fight her own battles.

I continue to post to her periodically because as has been mentioned, I see something eerily familiar in her sitch. Have you considered that perhaps what I have to say actually might hold some water? Don't assume that I am ganging up on her. That could not be further from the truth.

Yes - and she also made it pretty clear that she was feeling attacked and ganged up on. Since I read her thread daily, and have a different opinion about her approach, I thought I should comment so she would know not everyone thought she was wrong in her approach.

It's fine that we don't all agree - in fact it's healthy. What good would this place be if we all had the same viewpoint? And maybe you meant something different by your comment about posters - but I read it, as I believe RC did, to mean that people weren't posting to her because she wasn't following their advice. That certainly wasn't why I didn't post often - I didn't post often because I felt she had things under control.

Ellie,

Just wanted to chime in. The reason I avoid posting is twofold. First, if you say one thing which is different, you get your head bitten off. The other is that you see someone spinning so far out of control that you just don't know what to say.

One other thing. Why do people continue to call it advice when all people are doing is offering perspective and suggestions? You're a smart woman. You should be able to see the difference. I know when I first came to the board, I wanted to hear as many ideas as possible, mainly because I smart enough to know that I didn't know it all.

Did you know back in the day, I was told to take my head out of my rear end (though not said like that)? Did you know SWL was called pathetic? You know what we did? We may have had an initial surge of anger, but then we said wait, that was something worth listening to.
