None of this will do any good if she's got the runs from drinking cow's milk. Try the Nutramigen for a while to clear her up. Then phase in the milk a little at a time.

Chrissy,
I've been doing the neosporin, can't tell a difference yet. No juice, I don't give it to my kids, period. Panties, check. She wore them most of the day yesterday til I couldn't stand the cleanup any longer. Can I just mention that she looks sooooo cute in panties. They actually do have infant diarrhea meds now but I've been holding off on them in case it is a virus and not due to the milk. I don't want to hold the virus in, kwim. I've been doing the frequent baths (instead of wiping the poop off and further irritating her skin) but the aveeno is genius, thanks!
I don't use commercial wipes because they cause a lot of irritation so that's not an issue.
She looks a little better, thanks for the message.

Cobra, I've not given her any milk for about 24 hours now so the big D is letting up. If it turns out she can't drink milk, I'll look into the nutramigen. She may be old enough that I can forego formula entirely and somehow get her to drink soy. I had to do that with D3 who wouldn't drink cow's milk for the longest time, either.

Kids!

Poor baby. I just feel so badly for her. I am a big fan of the A and D for multiple issues. My DD8 often uses it for times when she gets a little rash or chafing.

How are you and Mr. HP?

Gosh, Honey, I take a BB break and come back to catch up with you and this? I'm so sorry to hear all of this... and sorry because it brings back some really unpleasant memories of my D8 as a baby.

Yes, I can remember all of this vividly... my D8 had acidic diarrhea for months, and it was so awful that her bottom bled. Mr. Wonderful, my mom and I would cry at the sink while trying to clean her up... so here's some stuff which I endorse (and I'll let you know what the others have said has worked for us, okay?).

1. A&D is THE BEST. Bar none. But use sparingly if the area is chafed. Goop it on liberally to coat that sensitive skin.

2. Cleaning up? Abandon wipes. Use hypoallergenic kleenex or cloths that have been washed in detergent without dye or perfume... like All Free & Clear. Use Cetaphil--which you can buy at the grocery store for about $7. I know you tread lightly, so gentle is the word.

3. Maybe alternate with spraying her under the sink nozzle and letting her air dry?

4. You can buy organic disposable diapers at health food stores. They're more expensive and less absorbent, but my D8 needed them to get through this.

5. Some natural sunlight on that poor little bottom.

6. If she doesn't like soy, don't go there. My D8 couldn't drink cow's milk for at least 2 years. We tried goat's milk with some limited success. And yes, Nutramigen. It's $20 per frickin' can, it smells like crap (probably worse to drink... poor kid), but it's predigested and much easier on the system. Perhaps she'll only need it for a brief time? I had to stop breast feeding D8 after a week, and then we went on the joyride of her life. She has had mega GI issues since birth, and it's not something that others typically experience...

I'm going to pray that this is a virus. But you might want to get a workup done since it's been 2 weeks. Here's to hoping for a free and clear future!

Hugs,

Bets

Hi HP,
I would second the goat's milk suggestion! Worked wonders for my D4 and she still drinks it, although she can tolerate cows milk now.

Update:

BabyPot is doing better; thanks for the well wishes. Bets and Fran, goat's milk eh? Where does one buy that...at the regular grocery store?

I've been trying soy for about 5 days now and though there is no more diarrhea she can't keep it down. She drinks it and within 20 minutes or so, bam there it is.

My dad is doing so-so. My favorite sister, the one who..gulp..abandoned me had to come into town last week so she could see him before he got really bad. She stayed with me and it was really fun. My husband was the *ultimate* host, even giving up his spot in bed so she and I could sleep together. (we don't have a guest bed at the moment, since our kids take up every available bed) He couched it. Whatta guy.
I was so proud that he was my husband.

He and I are doing pretty good! We had a semi-rough night last night where he was up to his old tricks...berating me, being critical, etc. However, I looked him straight in the eye and told him that I would not tolerate being spoken to in that way. I didn't get mad and escalate the whole thing, I just stayed calm and kept reiterating my position. Lo and behold, he was standing before me within 30 minutes apologizing for the way he had been acting all evening. This stuff really works!! We went on to have a good night together.

That's all for now..adios amigos!

HP,

Wow you have a lot on your plate right now.

Babypot and Grandpa Pot are in my prayers.

Hang in there with H. He is a good guy (if a little dense now and again).

Karen

PS Did you ever sign up for a WWME weekend?

Karen,
WWME has been in our church bulletin the last, gosh, 3 months advertising for upcoming sessions in Feb, Mar and April. I mentioned it to H and got a lukewarm response and dropped it. He is the type of guy who will gladly do whatever I ask, as long as I spearhead the whole thing. Well, sometimes I just don't want to play that role, kwim?
So I dropped it.

Last weekend they had a description of a new kind of session that lasts one whole Saturday, without the overnight stay. He jumped on it immediately! "Hey do you want to do this? No overnight babysitter!" So I will *gladly* do all the leg work for it. I can't provide all the enthusiasm AND all the legwork, tho.

So I'll let you know how that turns out. I think it's at the end of the month, actually...which means I should call on it today. Thanks for the kick in the yoga pants, K!

Please keep all the Pot family in your prayers.

P.S. Tonight I'm going back to weight watchers. I went right after babypot was born and lost all of it but 10 lbs or so and that 10 lbs has been haunting me ever since. Wish me luck!

Hi HP,

Are you SURE you're not married to H's long-lost twin? The stuff about spearheading everything is just us to a T. And I know exactly what you mean about providing the spearhead AND the enthusiasm

Here in England you can get goats milk at the grocery store. I just never noticed it until someone mentioned it to me. If not then I would try a healthfood store. Goat's milk formula might also be available here is a link Goat milk infant formula. Glad to hear Babypot is feeling better though.

My thoughts are with you re your Dad, glad your sister could come and stay and kudos to H for giving up his spot in the bed!

take care

Fran

Honeypot...

In my area you can get goatsmilk in the supermarket as well....but if you don't find it in your supermarket, you might try a an international market if you have one in your area.
