Just checking in to report that my weight this morning was 68 kilos, so off I go!
My plan is to eat more or less normally for breakfast and lunch, though emphasising the veggies and not the carbos. I am more or less vegetarian anyway. Also, no second and third helpings, no chocolates and cakes galore, maybe some once in a while. But don't have too much about the house! At tea I can have a mug of tea and maybe even a bicuit or two, and for dinner, just some fruit and raw veg salad if I'm hungry. I find it easiest to skip a big meal at dinnertime and always feel great the next morning after a light meal or none at all. You should try it!
I walk D to her school and back twice or thrice a week, that's about nine miles in total, of brisk walking on the flat. Have to force myself to go to the swimming pool once a week (it's mainly boredom with doing non-stop lengths for an hour ) I aim to drop a kilo a week. I know it's do-able if I stick fairly well to my plan. I would like to break through the 60 kilo barrier one day too!
I haven't bought any new clothes this year, I promised myself I would only after losing weight, I don't want a wardrobe full of big clothes - then there's no incentive! Perhaps I will go out and get some nice clothes at the end of this.
So, what's your plan for losing weight Ellie? I realise what a delicate postion you are in with your D13 in the house and her eating problems. Are they under control now? I will not mention dieting to my D, just tell her that I don't feel comfortable at night after a big meal. It's what I have done in the past. Also, no weighing myself in front of her. She saw me on the exercise mat this morning and came and gave me a hug and a nuzzle.

Well, for me, the biggest problem is not about knowing what to eat, but dealing with the cravings I get, usually in the afternoon. I actually think it has a lot to do with fatigue - I get tired, or my brain gets foggy (happens a lot, can't figure out how much is thyroid, how much is impending menopause) and the impulse is to reach for something to eat, because it gives me some temporary energy.
One thing I did change: last week when I had a really "foggy", tired day, at the end of the day I went to take my birth control pills and realized I had forgotten the previous evening's pill. Since I am nearing menopause and really need to be going off the pill soon, I suspect it's possible that my estrogen levels are low enough for me to feel that difference of missing a day of the pill. Just in case, I have started taking the pill in the morning to see if I feel any more focused during the day.
My eating habits themselves are actually pretty good - whole grains, beans, lean meats - and I do better when I avoid refined carbs. I know I could increase my fruits and veggies, and need to work on that (I eat them, but probably should have more servings a day than I do. I just get lazy about fixing them).
H and I had gotten into the habit of drinking wine with dinner, something we didn't used to do so much before, and I am trying to cut that out.
I did the treadmill yesterday, today will be upper body weight training with my D.
We need to have a once week weigh in, to see if we are on track, right? I'll drop in over here, I hope you'll have some carrot juice ready?

PS Perhaps we need to talk about what we will do to reward our success? I think I'll get some flattering winter clothes in the January sales. My wardrobe needs some fresh new additions for sure!

I am at 170 now also, at 5'4. But a few years ago, I was 228 - so I've come quite a way. I'd also like to be 160 (or the low 160's) by the end of the year, and in the 130's or 140 next year.
"The bomb" actually, in the end, made me a much healthier person in that sense, and emotionally too.
