Well - today I got to see my daughter - you know, that one I used to have before the eating disorder took over her body? (scary how similar to the "alien invasion" it is!). She was happy and joking and loving and went surfing with my husband and wore her bikini at the beach in front of all those people and only said "I'm fat" once at the end of the day!!!! Thank god for Prozac is all I can say.
I know it may be a while before I see "her" again, but it sure lifted my spirits
Funny thing I forgot to mention - Local researcher is doing a study on the genetics of OCD. I figured our family would probably qualify (since S12 has OCD symptoms and tics, and D13's anorexia has OCD components as well). Obviously I'd like to do our part to help research into this disease, so I contacted the research coordinator and she sent me these questionnaires for our family to fill out (then they will conduct interviews and draw blood samples).
The last page pertains to ethnicity, and asks me to categorize all four of my grandparents by their primary ethnic groups. There are several categories of caucasians, such as Group D "Caucasian - Western European" and Group G "Caucasian - US/Canada - but NOT French canadian" - oh, no, if you're French-Canadian, you are supposed to enter Group X. Group X also includes Amish, Ashkenazi Jews, Icelanders - all these really inbred populations!!!!
Well, my mother's family is all French-Canadian - I never dreamed that meant I was part of an inbred population!!!! Who knew????
Hi Ellie, Just wanted to pop in about your visit to SF this weekend! I have a bit of time saturday--between 11am and 1pm--I have a 2pm meeting in Redwood City.....let me know what happens... Pam
Pam - that would be perfect if we could get together for lunch Saturday! Email me at elliestough@hotmail.com and I'll send you the details about where I'll be staying etc.
dfb - that was a big deal that D went to the beach, because her obsessions about her appearance have been keeping her from wanting to appear in public in her swimsuit or a wetsuit (she looks fabulous, btw) and h that has kept her from surfing, which she loves.
Thank you for visiting my thread and for the encouraging comments. You are right that there are some similarities and I am very inspired. In answer to your question, I live in SF and occasionally visit dear friends in San Diego. Small world, eh?
Ellie, that is a lovely invitation--thank you. Normally on Saturday I could since H has kids but this time I have a meeting to go to all day. Bummer. Maybe when I go to San Diego in the next few months we could get together, or next time y'all have lunch here. Thanks again.
Hi all - been out running errands all day - but get to go out to dinner tonite - for my birthday 48 today (although my D keeps insisting I don't look it ) and frankly, despite everything, I feel GOOD!
