Hey Tyler... i work out pretty hard. You wanna build some muscle, time to hit the weights and eat the protein... simple as that really. If you are inexperienced, then it is best to go with light weights and learn the proper form. I would probably take a month or so just doing that. Stick mainly to the free weights, the machines are pretty much a waste of time (besides ones for legs IMO). For free weights you need your core for stabilization. I would learn how to the big three correctly: squats, dead lifts and bench press. I would read as much as can on it.
Bottom line is start light, focus on the muscle you are working and eat right. You should see some pretty quick initial gains.
