Thanks, NQ! I've tried tons of software, calendars, etc. Maybe I'm hopeless, but I'll keep trying.
Yep, you got it. Ever see Inspector Frost? David Jason is great! What I like about British shows is how they can make the mundane, everyday situations interesting. Here it's either over dramatized fluff or scripted down to the pauses for laughter.
Used to watch DaVinci's Inquest. Nice to see Canadian cities on TV not pretending to be Seattle, or NYC. I must admit, though, that my favorite show from north of my borders is Red Green. Funny this started off as a DIY show discussion because a lot of the shows on HGTV and DIY Network are Canadian. I always see the Canada Film Credit logo - at the end. Love Mike Holmes - Make it right!
Beauty, eh! Sorry, slipped into my misspent youth from the 80s listening to Bob & Doug McKenzie.
lol I'm loving this convo You're right that they use innit out of context You've got such a brilliant PMA milehigh, you really cheer me up and you talk good sense I've ordered that book you recommended and I can't wait to read it 3 weeks eh? I wish I had 3 weeks of not working, etc. I am always busy even during the summer holidays. Is there a hobby you can pursue in those 3 weeks? What about paintballing or something that will give you a high? Is there a club about that you can't normally go to because you're working? The list (haha!!) is endless!! When I was off college I spent that time catching up with friends, going to a craft club that I normally can't go to, catching up with my neglected paperwork and my neglected housework. I'll be watching you as well to make sure you're not sitting in front of the TV all the time, lol. Be good

Yep, used to watch Inspector Frost. And other David Jason shows are Porridge and Darling Buds of May (with a very young Catherine Zeta Jones playing his daughter) - they're a lot older though (predate Only Fools and Horses).
S13 and I have great fun watching movies that are supposed to be set in the US and pointing out landmarks in our city. We frequently come across film or TV shooting sites when out and about. In fact, a couple of years ago we got tickets to Harlem Globetrotters. While S13 loved that show, the highlight of his day was afterwards when we walked from the stadium into the main shopping area and walked right into the set for a very popular show and he was allowed to have his pic taken sitting in one of the police SUVs and next to the command truck. Too bad none of the show's stars were on set at the time.
And watching TV can be considered GALing - if it's something you gave up for your spouse - I certainly did as the PC is in one room and the TV in another so I gave up a lot of shows in favour of trying to spend time with H while he played on the computer.
MH, I should get you to drop by my thread and offer your thoughts there.

Indeed I shall, NQ, but be warned, I may drop some TV references there, too. :-)
TDD180, there are so many things to do I get overwhelmed! But, you point out a couple key things - something I want to do, for me. Something outside the house that is more social might be good since I work from home in a fairly rural location.
Tiny boost - Thu night was first football game of season (sorry Brits - American Football) and although I'm too nerdy to be much of a fan, I can enjoy the games. My hometown team was playing, so I walked across the street to the local pizza place for a mess of wings and onion rings for my football party of me, the cat, and a friend on Skype chat. The guy who runs the place refused tips from the locals, and gave me a free drink. He said take whatever I want so I grabbed a can of Diet Pepsi. Didn't push it and grab a 2-Liter bottle. LOL
It's the little things that bridge the gaps between the big things we can't see through the fog!

With me NQ, me and H were always in front of the TV when we were having our dinner. Now I have dinner with my son at the table and then we go on our PCs. A total 180 and one of the first ones I applied in my sitch. MH, glad you're getting out and about I know what you feel about being overwhelmed by things. NQ is right when she says to have a calendar, I don't know what I would do without mine! It's stuck up on the wall next to my PC and I write things down on there all the time. It could be little things as well, not just appts. I got my calendar from the US through Flylady site. It's got loads of room on each day and so you've got space to write everything on there. Maybe if you get too overwhelmed, you may like to get a life coaching book that can manage your time more effectively. I know you like reading I try to keep the weekends free and go and do things with my son. I had a lovely day today. We went to a cheap bookshop and got a few books from there, I bought my son some clothes in the sale and then we went for lunch in a church room as it's a lot cheaper than a cafe. We had a wander round the market afterwards and then popped into cafe nero for a hot choc. Went to a service at the cathedral, then went back to someone's house for tea and cake. I'm just catching up with my emails now

I do tend to get overwhelmed. That's my ambitious side that knows time is limited and the time to act is now, competing with my carefree side that knows every minute is precious and should be enjoyed without pressure and deadlines.
One of the things I'm doing is getting back on the exercise bandwagon and meditation. Both help with stress, and the effects of my job and other health problems.
NQ, Loved the Harlem Globetrotters when I was a kid! Got to see them live, and watched them on the TV.
I was going to write telly, then googled to see if that was another outdated term. Found some hilarious discussion of things people think Brits still say.... "Cheerio, my good fellow." LOL
But this was the best, on the TV vs telly question: "We call them 'magic wee thinking boxes' and we never ever open them up for fear the clever pixies inside will escape with their quills and parchment."
I sometimes say telly and so do some of my friends. We don't say "cheerio my good fellow" or "jolly good show" lol. I still call my cardigan a cardi and my H used to pull me up about this lol. Most of my friends call it a cardi as well. Hmmm, now we've gone from TV shows to slang, lol. I've got loads of Brit sayings. Did you know we call your dinner, our tea? this confuses Americans as they think we drink a lot of tea as we're always saying "we're just going for our tea" when we really mean "We're just going for our dinner" lol, are you confused? Anyway getting back on topic, I posted some ideas for you MH on my thread I think. I just thought that you could get a life balancing book or a life coaching book that will help you or an extra large calendar that you write everything on it and stick it up on your wall! Men are notorious for not being organised, no offence but I think it's a male thing

I say! So, you can have coffee at tea?! LOL. That's ok. There are regional variances here between the terms lunch, dinner and supper. Then there's pudding. Here of course, it's just that jiggly stuff that's thicker than Jello, but still kind of goopy. Not a general reference to desert or one of those Christmas puddings.
Yeah, my W and I watch so much British TV and she reads tons of British books - mostly mysteries. I want to re-read the Harry Potter series, in the original UK editions.
No offense taken. Even though I have a job that requires good time management, project management, organization, etc. I often wonder how I've made it this far. LOL. I like that even in the age of computers, sometimes what works best for someone is a good old fashioned paper calendar.
I often find a paper notebook and a blank page more inspiring than any kind of program. Oh, same goes for journaling - I'm not very good at it overall, but a few years ago I started writing some thoughts in a simple spiral notebook and it was pretty therapeutic. And, interesting to go through later to see what I had written!
