I went to gym today to get a weight workout program. I kept my cardio workout at cycling 30min.
Since I had never done weights before they started me on the machines. I have an average of about 70lbs of weight on each lower body/abs machine Upper body is weaker average 30lbs on each upper arm chest machine.
They put it at two 15 rep cycles for each machine. 30 second per cycle with 1 minute rest between. I am to do this for 4 weeks (does this sound right?)
If you dont mind, Can I get your advice on proper diet for the work out? I usually keep very good track of percentage intake so If you need specifcs then I can give them
Thanks

Do you have any idea's or advice on how to beat a mental block?
JTB I spent many years doing powerlifting and I have to say that I often would have a friend spotting me and not tell me how much weight they were putting on. This friend MUST know your limitations and your weights, though, and be honest, you don't want to hurt yourself b/c someone thinks a it's a joke. Great way to get past that block. I went from 145 pounds to 175 on the BP almost instantly when in college doing this.
jt2007, its a comon misconception that lifting weights will create large buldging muscles. What creates large muscles is a large intake of protein along with weight training. What I mean by a lot of protein is 2x or more than body weight. What tones muscles is a proper DIET, not a weightlifting program. You will build muscles and strength lifting weights, but the tone and shape comes from a strict diet. Either program with a good diet will get you what you want.
And genetics. I have good genetics and even with low weight high rep, I put on muscle like crazy, so I just gave up and said - live with it, I'm a muscular girl.
Im not going to worry to much about it then, just accept what may come of me trying to tone up.
I did get my workout situated with the trainer, talked to him again. He said he put more weight on because I wasnt at my breaking point at the end of the reps. Biceps are ok but have very weak pecs and tri,,starting low..and it hurts!!
Today 20 min cycle burn(5 miles) 95lb sp 125lb thigh(i/o) 20lb fly 30lb tri
70gm protein/700 cal carbs (may have to watch this later its my reg. diet)
abs and back on Monday!

Forward, I work out 5 days per week, low reps, high weight, but with that being said, I go 60%-80% of my max for 8 weeks, then 85%-100% for 4 weeks. My workout is for power and is very scientific based on percentages. You don't have to do all that unless you are going to powerlift!
JT2007, Diet, remember, calories in equal calories out. What do you want to do? Increase muscle? Decrease weight? Lose fat? Give me an idea of what you want to do.
And BH...another question. I am doing the cardio and yoga on alternating days. Bocusing weights primarily on triceps since that is where I feel most age-revealed. I just have little dumbbells.
Which exercises do I do for toned abs? I do not have money or time for gym now but am happy to note how much you can do without an actual gym.....
