If you don't think the amount will be more(I hope not!!) then send him a note letting him know what his portion will be. That way he has some time to get it. What a pain!!

Hmmm, no if anything it might be less. But I don't foresee more. Although it's possible the state will also now want more money. *rolls eyes*
$h!t rolls downhill after all lol.
Maybe tack something on like, "Your half would be $290.50. Perhaps we can adjust that due to the $311 (I think) that was withheld from the state refund to pay your student account?"??

I received a bill from the IRS for $581 regarding our joint tax return from 2008. They say, correctly, that we did not include your interest income since you hadn't received your 1099-int form.. They also allege that a W2 was left off. I need to check into that.
Regardless of whether they are correct or not, a response is required before March 19th and we most likely will have to pay the proposed amount due of $581. The form requires both our signatures. We can challenge the amount after it is paid and get a partial refund if we are entitled to it.
We need to decide on an equitable way to split the payment in order to avoid penalties and further interest. Your half would be $290.50. Perhaps we can adjust that due to the $311 (need to check that) that was withheld from the state refund to pay your student account? We can each then include a check for our portion with the form.
Sincerely,
Michelle

BA - LOL. Somehow I don't think it would inspire him to the spirit of cooperation. He shall remain so named in my phone however.
Julia - I'm not sure which is more draining. Dealing with the IRS, or dealing with him. LOL
So, I need to check and see how much of my tax refund was garnished so I can put that amount in there. Then I guess it's ready to send. Unless someone comes up with a brilliant edit.
