I "got" the refund in 08. He never gave me 07. But 08 is also the year I lost my state tax refund to his bills. So I didn't really get to keep all of 08 either. All of which makes me want to send him the bill. But if he doesn't pay it, I'm gonna be liable.

It was productive. Sorta. Ignored the tax issue (still pretty peeved though). Got some stuff unpacked. Got the fridge stocked. Went to brunch with a few friends. Caught up on some sleep.
Can't complain too much.

Okay, I'm drafting an e-mail to XH about the tax crap. *sigh*
F*cktard,
I received a bill from the IRS for $581 regarding our joint tax return from 2008. They say, correctly, that we did not include your interest income. They also allege that a W2 was left off. I need to check into that.
Regardless of whether they are correct or not, a response is required before March 22nd. The form requires both our signatures.
Also, we may owe some money even if the W2 was not accidentally left off. If that is the case, we need to decide on an equitable way to split the payment in order to avoid penalties and further interest.
Sincerely,
"your" awesome XW
Other than my facetious greetings/signatures, does that seem pretty clear? Do you think I should directly ask him for money?

I think that is fine. Until you do some more checking, you don't know if the amount due will change. Then once you do, I would say you are splitting it and he owes "x" amount.
Sorry that you are having to deal with this crud.
