Thanks, guys. Those of us who have been "outgrown, like an old overcoat" need all the affirmation we can get!

So, like, do we get a pass on that old "stay single one year for every 5 years of marriage post-divorce" because of our advanced age? Not that I'm in a hurry, but neither do I want to wait until I'm in a nursing home to experience love again!

You're kidding, right? You're going to sit there and let life pass you by because some gave you an old adage? Life was not meant to be lived by "rules of thumb.'

no--just hoping to generate a bit of discussion on that topic (something I'm notoriously ineffective at here). The other old chestnut is that the first relationship after divorce is inevitably a rebound affair which is doomed to end painfully.

my opinion is that at this point in my life (and Andy Rooney would seem to agree) I know myself fairly well. I've done considerable work, I've learned from my mistakes, I've known enough "bad" to appreciate the good--and I won't accept anything but love, kindness, and being cherished.

perhaps just a bit more time in this desert (a wise friend described this time as a "desert experience" spiritually) and real love will find me again for the first time.
