Just wondering....

H told me he will be taking antidepresants to help him stop smoking...does anyone have any experience with this ? Are there pro's and con's ?

Cinders,
I've never heard of someone taking AD's for to assist with the stopping of smoking. I've heard of patches, etc. I guess it's possible, but maybe someone else will chime in and give you their thoughts on this.

I hope that you've enjoyed your holidays!

Cinders,

There is such a thing it's called Zyban or Wellbutrin.

Here is a link.

I took it back in 99 to try to quit smoking. I was on it for about 3 weeks. It gave my this wierd somewhat dizzy sensation. I still wanted to smoke too. I quit taking it.

I haven since taken Chantix. That stuff took away the urge to smoke, I've tried them all and Chantix did work. There have been more and more cases lately of Chantix causing depression from what I have heard. My doctor was aware of this too.

Thanks Trapt !

Depression....well, that he could live with, I was thinking more along the lines of impotence...(that would totally embarass him infront of his younger ow ! haha)

Sorry, just had to have a little laugh !

Thanks so much for the info !

Cinders,

I am currently taking the AD that they use to help when they are trying to stop smoking. It is Welbutrin or call Zyban when they give it for smoking cessation. I like Welbutrin, it is weight neutral (doesn't cause the weight gain that others do) and I had no side effects. Of course I am not sure about the sexual difficulty that some of them cause men.

I am sorry but I had a good chuckle thinking about your H having that difficulty in front of his much younger OW. I think it would be funny if it happened to H with his OW. At his ge, it is possible.

Everything happens for a reason, maybe Dad needs to find that it isn't better out there, he needs to realize how good he had it here. Maybe he will find God and that is the most important thing when he finds Him he will know he is supposed to come home.

Zyban has many side effects but unfortunately impotence is not one of them It is particularly noted for causing seizures in people who have a pre-disposition to them. Interestingly another of it's more common side effects is to cause depression so please don't see this as a back door cure as it potentially could make things worse. It may make his pee more though

Dear ACJ,

thanks ! But I guess like with this all...in the end it is H's responsibility and I am not his mother...

This is the letting go bit, I think.

This is when we let them make their own choices in life.

Hope all is well with you today !

Much love,
