I can't remember what her numbers were, just that she went down hill very fast. She was 15 (border collie mix). I tried everything I could once I found out what was wrong, but it was too late. In the end she just stopped eating.
I know how you feel-- the hits just seem to keep coming. My animals are my babies.
What do they have you feeding her? The vet put Molly on Science Diet K/D, but she started refusing it about a month before she died.
N, I do hope your dog improves. She's lived longer than most and each and every day is precious and a gift for the both of you. Enjoy the time you have w/her. I understand that you do not want to lose her at this time, so keep a close eye on her.
God and your special angel are very close and keeping a close eye on you. They tend to send those special angels to us when we really need support and it looks like you've had a number of special angels visit w/you at the vets. Always accept their kindness and know they appear for a special reason.
BTW, I'm glad Thanksgiving went well for you. Now, we must look forward and get through the next major holiday. Do you have any plans for the holiday?
Sit quietly, the answers will reveal themselves when you least expect them to. The past is gone, the present is a gift and you need to focus on today, allow the future to reveal itself when it is ready.
Thank you both so much!!! My dog has not been eating very well for a while now, but they said her numbers were not high enough for her to stop eating. I'm taking her to a holistic vet so we are on all nature stuff! He doesn't like the Science Diet or any of those like that, which before I took her to him I had her on Science Diet ID, he said they cook it too much. I'm giving her a raw meat & vegetable diet along with some holistic canned food. Also I have some dry that she will eat sometimes. Her tummy churns a lot so part of her problem is her tummy, he also thinks she has a bacterial infection & has given her more supplements for that. Her levels were 2.7 in May so it has gone up but he also said that if we had not had her on these supplements that she would be here now so we are doing something good & he increased them. I just decided that I would try this all nature stuff & vet to see what happens, I didn't have anything to loose except money, it's not cheap but whatever it takes!!! She didn't eat this morning but ate really well tonight so I feel good about that. My girl is a doberman, collie, shepherd mix & 14, so your border collie mix lived a long time to be a bigger dog. I know you miss her so bad!!! When it rains it pours & we just keep getting hit. One day we will come out on top, I hope anyway. I keep praying!!!
Snodderly, thank you so much for your support also. My holiday plans are to go home & spend a full 2 weeks with my parents. I have several friends that are wanting to see me so I'm setting up some lunches with them & stuff like that. So, it's not really anything big but at least I'm getting out with some friends, that's not something I normally do. No biggy for Xmas this year, I'm not buying any gifts, except for the dogs (toys). But my parents already told me not to get them anything that as long as we were together was good enough & that is fine with me also. I'm not in the mood for Xmas much but I'm just going to do the best I can. Since I don't have a job I need to save all I can so that is one reason they said not to get them anything, I'll go to the dollar store & the the pups something. I've thought about giving them the cross stitch that I've done, but I don't have it framed so I might just give it to them & get it framed later. They have seen it but they think it's for me, which it was but I think I'm going to give it to them & make me another one.
Again, thank you all for being here for me!!!!! You are so right, God sends those special angels just when you need them, it really made me feel so much better. I also think all of you in this site are my special angels too, because I couldn't have gotten this far without you all being here!!!
I have heard about a lot of dogs making remarkable recoveries on raw food. I fed Molly mostly chicken + cottage cheese with flax oil after she quit eating the K/D.
Have you heard of Transfer Factor (bovine colostrum)? I think it made her feel better, and I'm convinced it's helping Barley. I'm under no illusions he's dying, but would like to slow the cancer down if at all possible. Right now he's eating Taste of the Wild, which is no-grain.
I've never heard of the Transfer Factor, I'll have to check it out. I've had 2 dogs in the past that have had cancer, but I'm like you as long as they feel good & you can slow down the cancer, go for it. I know there are supplements out there that will help with the cancer but I don't know what they are. I'm so glad I've gotten her to this holistic vet, I know I can't keep her around forever but I know she is feeling better.
