mmmmm, omelettes- broccoli and cheese is my fav.
That's interesting about Marley. Makes you wonder how with such humble and difficult beginnings, his songs could be so unlifting.
yay for you for the knee being ok. And get the guitar - or as my son says - DO IT UP!

Ok, I am thankful for my 8 year old niece. She is such a bundle of happy. Spent the day with her. She lives in Brooklyn so we went across the street from her house to cheer on the New York Marathon runners. She made sure we were there for the disabled participants at the beginning and she cheered until the very last person passed us. She has such a huge beautiful heart and spirit. I had a ball!

ok, it's settled: I'm getting a guitar. I've been fantasizing about it long enough. It's time.

Hey BeginnersMind, It's infectious being around happy people, isn't it?

I just spent over two hours typing up a *ridiculously* long post for my own thread, so I'm going to try to make this short! ;\)

SirPrize, this is a great idea, and after reading what you said about how this gratitude practice is helping you, I'm going to try it myself! I've done it before, but only in private journaling.

Oh, by the way, I want to encourage you to "go for it" with the guitar! My H has played guitar for 30 years, so I know a little about it (never played it myself). Two pieces of free advice (which may be worth exactly what you paid for them!): Take a guitar-playing friend to the shop to help you pick out a guitar that is good enough not to restrict your progress (don't go too cheap, or you'll regret it later!), and find an instructor, or at least a class--that will help you progress a lot faster!

So, here we go:

Today I am thankful for:
-- This board, and all the people here who teach me, and support me, and allow me to feel useful and appreciated when I post to them, and generally help me to become a better person, little by little
-- My friends in RL, who listen to me with kindness and love
-- A gorgeous, postcard-quality sunset!
-- My good health
-- My adorable, loving cats
-- Anti-depressants and suicide hotlines
-- The privilege of voting to express my preferences for government direction, especially since I belong to a group that has only been guaranteed this right for 88 years (American women--my grandmother voted in the first election open to women voters right about the time she got married)
-- An incredible season for fall colors, which makes driving anywhere an eye-popping and sensual experience!

I think that's enough for today...I need to save a few things for tomorrow's list! ;\)

Peace,
Dawn

SPM,

You have become a wise, wise man. I admire the way you have learned to focus on the positive.

Nice of you to say Nut. Truly making a daily effort to focus on the positive is just a 2-week old thing for me. I got the idea from someone here (I forget who). So far it feels good.

Today's list of good stuff:

  • Progress. We're settling the divorce. I can look at it either as an end or a step in the path. I don't know where we will end up, but I am looking forward to settling this, the cessation of hostilities. It doesn't hurt that i will have unlimited access to my kids, and we'll have normal communications for parenting purposes. I no longer feel like a leper.
  • Stuff I am looking forward to having my belongings again - my tools, my sports equipment.
  • Trials - I spoke with my sister, telling her that we were nearing settlement. Despite my description, it is still a hard thing. Sis took the opportunity to tell me how hard I was to live with. How nice! Just what i was hoping for. no, actually, I was hurt by what she said. But I was calm. I rang off, thought about what she said. There was some truth to it. A couple hours later I called her back to express that, and also tell her how I felt about the things she said. It felt good to have a normal conversation about very difficult emotions.
  • wise counselors - they are everywhere. Shelter in the storm.

hey Dawn -
I have been enjoying the fall colors too. And this year, the smells and sounds even. It's been a good fall for all that.
And yesterday there was a beautiful sunset. It's good to appreciate these things.

SirPrize,
Glad you are enjoying the beauties of nature too. Whereabouts do you live? (Not Florida, obviously!) I like to make it a point to be grateful for both very temporary (e.g. sunset) and more long-term things. I am sorry to hear that your sister was somewhat less than helpful, but I hope you worked things out with her to your satisfaction.

So, today's gratitude list for me is thus:

I am grateful for:
-- The weird and wonderful experience that is National Novel Writing Month
-- The availability of a wide variety of fabulous foods
-- Finally finishing some work that has been hanging over my head! (even if it is very late and the client is not happy about that...at least it's done now)
-- The fun of answering the door and seeing all the little munchkins on Halloween!
-- A decent house that shelters me from cold, heat, voracious insects, rain, snow....
-- Lessons learned from unexpected sources

Hope you are doing well today, SirPrize! Now I'm off to work on my NaNo novel!

Peace,
Dawn

Sir, my best friend just told me some things about myself in my marriage that werent exactly stellar. I thought about them, sorted them out in my head - some were true, some were not. More info to use in my journey.

Thankful for: -My sister - who never fails to make me laugh til
it hurts
-My 1 year old nephew - who is already a comedian
-Always my son, who amazes me everyday with his
huge heart
-my special needs kids who never give up
-chocolate!

Same thing here, BM. Some of what my sister said was true. It wasn't presented in the perfect way, and it wasn't at the right time. But after I thought about it later, there was some truth to what she said. So I can take away something good.

Oooooooh, yeah, chocolate. I can agree with that.

Today I am thankful for:
  • Elections, and the peaceful transition of governments that the USA has had since 1789.
  • the end of the election campaign that the actual election marks. Yes, the campaign was too long.
  • Milestones. This is a historic moment. A man who, 60 years ago, could have been denied a seat on a city bus, was just elected president! Is this a great country or what?
  • The future and the limitless possibilities it holds for me and for everyone.
  • Friends who call up and invite me to dinner spontaneously.
