My mother started to tell me, as if she was having to break something to me gently, that my W sounded so genuine and sincere, and that again W seemed to be content and at peace with this separation and D.
What I think is your W prob. is a little like my H. He can sound totally sweet and sincere, but before and after a conversation with friends or family he would be yelling at the kids and I or something like that. My H almost is an actor or something, hiding his true feelings from most of the world. He says everyone does that, but I think it is a little weird. I'm sure your W would sound like that to your mom even if she was depressed or miserable, I'm thinking. For the 2 minutes of that call or whatever she makes herself sound happy b/c she knows your mom will tell you.
I'm sure your mom knows the truth about you and your sitch. I know my brother is so mad at H, almost too mad, I wish he could be a little more forgiving which it sounds like your sweet mom is! I think it was a good thing that your W is reaching out to your mom (even if motivated by your SIL). It sounds like a positive thing to me, so I hope you don't worry about that too much.
