You say you're open to advice. My advice continues to be, DON'T LET HIM MAKE THIS HIS DECISION. Your response to this should have been "Really. And why do you think this is YOUR decision??"
Both you and your husband are under the impression this is HIS decision to make. This is NOT what you want to convey.
You need to make it clear that YOU are reconsidering your options for the rest of his life, and that the clock is ticking, and that he'd better damned well hurry up.
