ok back to kids....

(before someone else reminds us)

what age do you think therapy is effective for kids?

I know after my 1st divorce and my kids were so young it wouldn't have helped since they could barely talk in sentences yet but it helped a little when we went through it a 2nd time...

any thoughts????

s9 just got done with therapy. and it did wonders for him for the most part. i think it was perfect timing and although he started going due to the fact that xw wanted him on meds, the ends justified the means. God took care of us on that, because I wanted to put him in therapy from the time she split. so I guess I'd say 7 or 8 wouldn't be too early

I don't care what you think, as long as it's about me.

do you feel you had a solution oriented counselor, or was it a 'feelings oriented one'?

I think ours is a feelings one. Not sure how solution based might help kids, who are pretty much stuck with the situation as is.

How do you think solution-based might look for them?

The only thing I feel needs to be said here is this may be the wrong forum for this thread, unless sgctxok is helping gather notes for the nexr DB book.

The point that divorce isn't what we wanted for our kids is moot for us. It's already happened. So, asking us what works, then preaching about how we should avoid the big D probably is out of place for those Surviving the Big D.

And I have to wonder. Sgctxok cannot possibly be so dense as to miss this point as many times as it appears. So, spill it. What's the big picture here? Why ask the choir to provide quotes, then stir us up when they're not the ones you want?

I kind of think this is the perfect place for it in the right context BH. Don't get me wrong, I hear what you are saying.

However, this forum is full of people who need to take a good hard look at what it is doing to our kids and what we can do to help.

I think it is important to have this thread here where those further along in the process can help those just starting out. Not sure if there is another forum on here where this subject is more pertinent.......
