Hi Trip,

Actually I'm just having some fun with it. It is almost laughable... kinda bordering on pathetic to feel so akward at my age.

I don't want to come right out and flirt with this guy... but I do find myself interested a tad more than casually. So, how do you find out more about someone to even know if you might be interested. I'm at a total loss in the whole process.

I mean heck, I don't want to just come right out and ask, hey are you married.... gotta girlfriend....? Geeze, how lame is that? I could use some pointers here folks.... please!

LNF,

The first step is to hire him. Being around him could reveal the answers to your questions without coming right out and asking. Then again, a roofing job doesn't take all that long to do. This is a tuff one.

If you have some mutual friends I suppose you could ask them some general questions, but then you run the risk of them figuring out that you're interested before you even know that yourself. Personally I wouldn't do this but I know people that would and would say they were just looking for character refernces before they hire him. That could work.

Good Luck mon ami!

I did hire him Bethie....DUH!!!!

I scheduled it in June.... when I called to set it up I tried to get a little info. w/o being obvious. I asked a few questions about the job ... how long it would take, and did I need to be here(as if I wouldn't), if we needed to meet before hand to choose a color so it could be ordered and here on schedule. Through the course of the maybe 15 min. call I did find out that he has kids... don't know how many or how old. That he is a member of a gym and that he doesn't have any use for drugs. That last bit came about in a pretty humerous way. I had asked him if he was feeling better since the few days before when he was giving me the bid he mentioned he'd had that kidney stone problem ... he said yeah that was rough, that he'd heard that calcium was a problem but that he'd not realized that protein could do the same thing. Well, he was outside during this conversation and the wind was blowing causing some problems with my ability to hear him clearly.... and I said, "what did you say? Cocaine?" (What a dork!) he laughed and said no no no.... protein... he'd begun adding it to his diet since joining a gym with some friends. That he had no use for drugs and had just had to fire one of his guys cause of drinking, hated to but there was no room for that kind of thing with his employees. I felt like a total goob!

He did say that I could call anytime if I had questions or needed help with anything else( he is a contactor-home builder-not just a roofer.... heck, I don't know what you call them).... sheesh, if he only knew what kind of help was running through my head...

You should have played dumb and said, "Now when I take out the workers comp policy would you like to name anyone in particular as your beneficiary?" Of course he has it already if he has a business, but he doesn't know that you know that!!!!

I had kidney stones too...OHHHHHHHHHHH baby!!! Is he going to have them zapped. He has better do something, cause I know how much pain I was in and mine didn't have to pass through a...well you know. Tell him to drink water like he never has before. I swear it's a miracle cure. I could feel an attack coming on and I'd start pumping water. A miracle I tell ya'!

Hey, I knew that you said you were going to hire him but I didn't know that it was a done deal..sheesh!

Jules, hey a girl can dream, right!

Bethie, C'mon girl.... try to keep up here! yeah, even if his bid had been a little higher, I probably would've still hired him... that fact was just cake!!!

Oh and I love the worker's comp. idea... very creative!
and I think it was zapped... he'd mentioned just having been to the urologist and was telling me about some kind of kidney flush or some painful proceedure they did. I was too mesmerized to pay close attention! \:D
