She moved miles away, to the middle of nowhere. It was a beautiful location, but the kids hated being so far from their friends, and they spent most of their time with me in the city. I think that upset her a lot, it was unexpected. On the other hand the distance between us has been a boon, and the mood has mellowed a lot.
On visits to the city she has bunked in with our littlest one here in my house, and was very pleasant and courteous.
Recently she announced she is moving back into the city, to a house on the same block as me! Inside myself I felt very negative about this, that I had made this neighborhood 'mine' and how I'll be seeing her in the supermarket, etc.
Also, a female friend said, 'you'll find it hard to nurture a new relationship, with your ex living just around the corner'. That worried me too.
On the other hand, the kids will now have both of us within reach, and a lot of the logistics of daily life will be made easier.
I'm confused as to whether her willingness to live so close by signals some unconscious desire to be closer to me in other ways. A large part of me would still like that. While I'm totally accepting that it's 'over' for her, I'm still open for a new adventure with her. However, true to DB principles (as I understand them) I'm keeping my distance, getting on with my own life.
