I'm sitting here watching TV with my kids and this commercial comes on. About Chantix... that quit smoking aid?

It says they have recently discovered severe side-effects related to Chantix, where if you consume alcohol while taking it, you can experience severe mood swings, severe depression, including suicidal thoughts, and severe anxiety.

Guess who has been taking Chantix, and drinking? I mean, not like I was, but still having wine and beer.

Guess who will NOT be taking Chantix and consuming alcohol together, anymore?

Holy smokes.... yeah, I'll be calling to find out more.

Hey kid,

Kind of scary huh? I was doing a little search after reading your post and although I didn't see anything mentioned about alcohol (might have missed it though) it didn't sound like the drug was too promising anyways. I don't know what all they based their findings on but for what it's worth here is the link.. (I think, not really too good at this)

Good luck girl, and I really did mean what I said over on HD - LD. Take the praise, you've been a tremendous help to me \:\)

PS...Drop the Chantix...Give up alcohol, WTF !! are you kidding

I went looking, too. Nothing.

FWIW, it was a public service announcement. I would imagine info will be flooding the market.

If anyone sees that commercial, write down the phone number for me, would you?

Thanks for the info. I called & left my boss a message b/c I know he was/is on it and drinks like a fish.

I still have a bunch up in my cupboard waiting for me to get back on it. It truly does work very, very well as a quit smoking aid. Don't drink, but now I don't know if I want to take it again either. Who knows what else they may find out about it, you know?

IC:

Welp... I actually called my doctor at home and told him all about this.... stuff.

He told me to get off the stuff immediately, it'll take about two weeks for the drug to cycle out of my body, and he is going to hit all the medical news wires tomorrow to find out what's what.

Uhmmm.... well... er... uhhhh.... I suck at taking compliments.

You're welcome. Thanks for the nice compliment. Glad to be of service, hazzah, hazzah, {genuflect}.

Whatever. YOU did the work.

Cori
Quit at 20. Outside of an occasional cigar kept off of it. Did cold turkey after 2.5 packs a day since 16. One of the hardest things I did. Keep going you can do it.

How much did you smoke how long?

Well.

I called the doc. I called the shrink. The shrink was in. Who knew. On a Sunday night.

Short version. Chantix is a twelve week drug. I've been on it for six months.

Shrink said: "Who the fck authorized you being on it for more than 12 weeks?"

Me: "My doc. He didn't know."

HIM: "Someone knew. Go off it. Go off it now."

Nothing like a doc being calm.

Good luck. Anything that messes with the receptors is dicey at best.
